I go through phases of infatuation with designers, much like kids get excited for the latest fashion trend or teen heartthrob.
The first designer that I remember getting excited about was Massimo Vignelli. I've worked on and off as a Graphic Designer since 1987, and I found his often simplistic imagery very influential. Vignelli's success and visibility as a graphic designer around that era was comparable to that of a popular movie star. You would recognize his work if you were to see it again. His corporate identity programs included American Airlines, Bloomingdale's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Knoll International and Heller Designs, to name just a few. His success as an industrial designer easily equals his visual campaigns. Furniture, Lighting, Tableware and Kitchenware are areas where Massimo continues to express himself and create quality products for the masses. Elements of his design work just 'feel' like Vignelli. I continue to seek out and deal in his product designs, like the colorful Melamine plastic dinnerware and ribbed glass bakeware (designed with his wife, Lella) by Heller.
